An independent London publisher, incorporated in 1971, that has become the principal UK outlet for modern Georgist books — including works by Fred Harrison and Philip J. Anderson — and for editions of Henry George's own writing.
Overview
Shepheard-Walwyn (Publishers) Ltd is an independent London-based publishing house, incorporated on 29 October 1971, that has operated for more than five decades with a list weighted toward "ethical economics."[1] Under publisher Anthony Werner, who took over the firm in 1979, Shepheard-Walwyn became the principal UK-based publisher of modern Georgist economics, issuing works by Fred Harrison — including The Power in the Land, Boom Bust, and Ricardo's Law — and by Phillip J. Anderson, including The Secret Life of Real Estate and Banking, as well as reissued editions of Henry George's own books and Mason Gaffney and Fred Harrison's The Corruption of Economics.[2] In 2017, Werner and Harrison were jointly honored with Economic Justice awards (Advocate and Educator, respectively) for their contribution to the Georgist field.[3]
Significance
As Schalkenbach is the historic US custodian of George's own texts, Shepheard-Walwyn functions as something close to a UK counterpart for the modern Georgist canon — the publisher most consistently willing to bring 18-year-land-cycle and land-value-tax economics to a general readership outside academic presses.
