Earthsharing Australia

Overview

Earthsharing Australia is a Georgist organisation providing free education services in economics, operating as the educational and environmental outreach arm of, and a sister organisation to, Prosper Australia — the Melbourne-based reform body whose lineage in the Victorian single-tax movement reaches back to 1890.[1][2] It describes its mission as demonstrating "the urgent need for the capture of the naturally rising value of the earth for public benefit," arguing that sharing this natural wealth allows taxes on "the makers" to be reduced while "curtailing the motivation to exploit our resources" — a framing that connects land value taxation and resource-rent capture to sustainable, "walkable communities resilient to the pressures of climate change."[1] This ecological reading of Henry George's economics is the practical expression of ecological Georgism.

The Prosper Australia network

Earthsharing sits within a cluster of linked Melbourne Georgist organisations: alongside Prosper Australia and the Land Values Research Group (LVRG), it forms the partnership that produces the movement's Australian research and advocacy, "at the forefront of advocating ideas and policies based upon the work of the U.S. classical liberal economist Henry George (1839–1897)."[2] The most substantial output of that network is the Total Resource Rents of Australia report (Prosper Australia, 2013), which estimated that economic rents comprise 23.6% of Australian GDP and argued that a large share of government revenue could be raised by capturing land and natural-resource rents in place of taxes on income, companies, and sales.[2]

Work

Earthsharing produces the long-running Progress magazine, ran the Georgist Podcourse (a structured audio introduction to the ideas), and hosts Renegade Economists, a monthly radio program presented for years by Karl Fitzgerald on Melbourne community station 3CR, addressing the monopolisation of land, banking, and licensed privileges.[3] Its free public-education work — courses, talks, and media aimed especially at environmentally motivated audiences — serves as an accessible on-ramp into land-rights economics.
