Voters Choose Congressional Representative Today

On May 15, voters in Pennsylvania's Ninth Congressional District will elect a representative to the U.S. Congress. It is the only open Congressional seat. Who will the citizens choose? Will there be widespread vote fraud as with other American elections?

Here is a position summary by candidate Alanna Hartzok of the Green Party.

I am asking the voters of District Nine to consider my qualifications to serve as your District Nine Congressional Representative based on the following:

I am the only one of the three candidates who has initiated legislation and ushered it through the state legislative proceedings, the House and the Senate, to successful passage of a bill passed nearly unanimously and signed into law in 1998 as Act 108 by Governor Ridge. Now the nearly 1000 boroughs of our state can take advantage of a new and beneficial local tax policy reform. I have demonstrated the ability to build bipartisan support for important legislation and to move us beyond the 50/50 split in the body politic and towards consensus decision making.

I am the only candidate with experience in world affairs and who understands the current realities of the role of the United States in issues of global concern and how they impact us as a nation. For six years I have served as a United Nations Non-Governmental Representative for an international organization with 60 member organizations and I have actively engaged in and spoken at numerous international conferences. It is essential that the United States make wise and careful decisions in the world arena and I have the background, the clear perception and the experience to do so.

I am the only candidate who has written numerous published articles on economic and public finance policy. My innovative research and policy recommendations have been useful to legislators working for tax reform in six states. I am on the leading edge in tax reform policy for the 21st century. A Global Institute for Taxation policy paper of mine was distributed to all members of Congress in 1999. Many of my writings are available on websites, notably www.greentax.net.

As a Green Party candidate, it goes without question that I will work to support and improve programs that affect social well-being such as Medicare, Social Security and the Veterans Administration and which maintain affordability in basic human needs such as education and housing.

I will work just as strongly to protect and restore our natural resources and push for clean air and water and to decrease use of health damaging pesticides, herbicides and other toxins. Human health and environmental health are directly related and they must go together as priorities in order to substantially reduce the rate of cancer, asthma and other diseases linked to pollution.

I will work to build a fair market economy. The current economy unfairly concentrates wealth in the top 1% while the rest of us are working longer and harder, with more stress and less economic security. To correct this problem, I will work to reduce or eliminate federal taxes on wages, cut the unfair federal subsidies to big business, reduce the national debt and keep our dollars in the District.

Further, to prevent the dependency of District nine workers on corporations with no loyalty to our people who are moving out of the area for cheap labor in Mexico and elsewhere, I will work to build and strengthen a local-based economy in the District in the following ways:

Lastly, to stay in touch with the citizens of District Nine I will
