Government-Sponsored Killings Must Stop
Neither Candidate Able to Justify Death Penalty
Bush and Gore both agree -- it is all right for governments to kill their own citizens.
Candidates who disagreed with government killings -- for instance, the Green Party and Libertarian Party candidates -- were excluded from the presidential "debates." As a result, government killings were not treated as much of an issue during the 2000 presidential campaign.
Meanwhile, the United States is isolated as the only so-called "western democracy" to sponsor such killings. Europeans, appalled by what they see as an uncivilized, bloodthirsty and primitive custom, are increasing the international pressure on the United States to update and reform its policy.
If individual people don't have a right to kill people, where do democratic governments get the presumed right to kill their own citizens? And what if a person is convicted by mistake? Tell The Progress Report:
