TrueGrit says:
The only value in land, gold, tobacco, rocks, silver is the value attributed to them by peoplethat desire them for what they represent. We've tried them all as a value base for exchangeof commodity or service. The perfect value baseis the labor performed to develop and deliver that commodity or service and the value base of that labor is determined by the market. The market demand for commodities and services, and thelabor that develops them, is consistent and perpetual. (Us humans have to eat and put a roofover our heads while shaving off a little bit to build a pyramid or two and provide for a government that will hold those other humans at bay.)

Adam Monroe Jr. says:
Taxes upon websites, the airwaves and such is a bad idea; they would have some negative effects and are unnecessary. Land value taxation, however, would have zero negative effects and would be far more than sufficient to fund government. Every successful act of government increases the value of land within the geographic boundary overseen by that government.

The idea should not be to collect every penny to which the government might be entitled, but to ensure equality and freedom. People who live in the wilderness should owe nothing to the government. The airwaves and the internet are a similar frontier. The government should take every available opportunity to leave people alone. Rome did not fall because they had no airwave-tax. The French Revolution was not the result of a lack of website taxation. Leviticus does not read "The sites are mine." It reads "The land is mine". Let us not obfuscate, let us clarify.

Business profit taxes, though simpler than our present system are still regressive. Increasing the efficiency of an evil thing is not progress.

Nature doesn't prefer perfection, she requires it. There are not two ways she will accept, there is but one. Good luck!

Michael L. Coburn says:
This same approach should be employed in lieu of all forms of income and/or wage taxation. Real estate taxes should be used as a means of personal taxation in support of federal defense and law enforcement efforts ONLY (not social stuff). More personal taxation derives from a surcharge on insurance. i.e. if it is an asset then it is gonna be taxed to fund defense and law enforcement.

Social stuff should be funded by no exemptions, no exclusions, flat rate consumtion tax. Perhaps a tax on transportation fuels assesed at the refinery, and an import duty to "correct" any actual advantage which would enure to imported goods produced without such taxes.
