BALLOT ACCESS

Ballot Access Progress

Most states have laws that give special privileges to Democrats and Republicans running for office. Candidates from other parties deserve equal treatment but do not receive it.

Two of the worst, most corrupt states in this regard have recently passed laws that reduce the special privileges. Maryland's ballot access laws are slightly more open now, and in Florida, there's "a new law that says third-party and independent candidates don't have to meet a higher standard than Democrats and Republicans to get on the ballot."

This law was passed by the Florida voters, bypassing their legislature. For a summary of the progress made in Florida and the law's details and the effect it is already having, just click here
