Israel To Montana
I have never been to Israel or Montana. After I submit this article I'll probably never be welcome in either place.As far back as I can remember Israelis and Arabs have been negotiating, refusing to negotiate, being forced to negotiate or fighting. That's more that 50 years of failure to achieve lasting peace. I doubt they'll ever get out of this tailspin unless something different, perhaps something radically different is done.
From time to time as an American soldier I found myself trying to think through things like "The Israeli Problem." There was for a time the possibility that I might end up being a part of the problem, so I would try to puzzle things out. With my limited smarts I might just as well have been trying to make sense out of Vietnam (which I was). I can't say nothing has worked for the Israelis because they are, after all, still there. But wouldn't you hate to live out your entire life in the political, economic and racial powder keg that all of the people in the area find themselves in?
Can you see any possible way that a newborn baby of the area will ever feel confident that he lives in a peaceful, safe place ... without leaving home? Anyway out of the US shoring up Israel's money supply? An end to the expenditure of US military, political and diplomatic effort?
The Israel to Montana idea came to me as a joke I think, and I have been shaking my head about it for several years. But as the costs of doing business as usual add up, the idea continues to intrude. I don't think there was any way to stop the forming of a nation out of the ashes of World War II and calling it Israel. The magnet of the traditional Jewish homeland was and is powerful, maybe even self destructive.
I just think we should have, and maybe still should, move both the Israelites and Israel to Montana. I mean just move the people,the artifacts, the top foot of earth and some of the sea water if need be, to someplace safe. I want them to be safe. They deserve to be safe. I just don't want us to have to kill off half the population in the Middle East to keep them safe, or worse, lose them all.
Surely there is a piece of the earth that will meet their needs without subjecting them to a state of perpetual siege.
Laugh, but do the math ... or come up with a better NEW idea.
