This Could Be the Time

We are providing WMD-worthy targets in the form of large troop concentrations in Iraq. So, if they do have nuclear, biological or chemical weapons capable of engaging massed human targets, right about now would be the time for them to be employed with the most effect.

I am more than a little nervous about the number of Iraqi military personnel steadily growing to exceed the troop strength of coalition forces inside Iraq. There is that possibility they may revert to type. I wonder what the contingency plan is for that .

And suppose there is still a "head" than can bring these two ingredients together in an effort to push us out or simply to punish us.

I feel like a foreigner in my own country. My plan for Iraq was ... don't go there. Now that we ARE there, the only thing I am sure of is that we should NOT widen the conflict. We seem to be bent on doing that too. I do not see a workable, people-friendly exit strategy for us in Iraq. What I believe will happen could be called trickle down and leave ...leave a mess...if we manage to confine ourselves to Iraq. If we expand, we'll likely end up being a ruling power through something like NATO. Call it MEPO ... the Middle East Proclamation Organization. These ideas assume that we will not simply get whipped.

We have an administration that got us into Iraq militarily, a rollover me Congress that let it, a United Nations that is intimidated and a brick by brick rebuilding process that is costing us an American life a day and billions of dollars ... all of which seems OK with the powers and enough of the people to let it continue for some time. But it is far from OK with me.

It would be theoretically possible to put everything on hold by applying a 'nuclear tourniquet' ... a few well placed airbursts scattering persistent radiation, smoothing out the dunes and removing the obstacle of humanity. Then we could use oblique drilling techniques to give us unfettered access to all that oil. And I'll bet there IS a plan for that.

Like the man said, "'tis a puzzlement."
